An Exact Intersect in Kemah, Tx
A recent pipeline installation required horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to install an 8-inch ethane pipe spanning over 6,000 feet. The pipeline design positioned the line to run parallel to State Highway 146, on top of a utility right-of-way. This introduced logistical complexities as utilities can cause interference with the accuracy of the drill.
Superintendent: Carlton Loftin and Wayne Robin
Location: Kemah, TX
Length: 6,267 feet
MAXX HDD brought a strategic approach to the drill job. The approach was to complete an intersect method. This required drilling from both sides to meet in the middle. By utilizing a 1-million-pound rig, a DD240, and Brownline’s Drillguide Gryro Steering Tool, the two boreholes were able to join seamlessly.
Due to efficient planning and the right technology, the project was able to be completed ahead of schedule and on budget.
