Precision HDD in a Tight
Urban Area
An operator needed a 30-inch pipe replacement in Missouri City, Texas, in the center of an urban area. MAXX HDD was subcontracted by a construction company to handle the horizontal directional drilling (HDD).
Superintendent: Carlton Loftin and Charlie evans
Location: Missouri City, TX
Length: 6,700 feet
Since the location was in a tight urban environment, there were several unique obstacles to overcome.
1. Limited Space
The job site was within the city limits and required a complete reorganization of the standard rig layout to fit equipment within the work zone.
2. Anchor Limitations
Parallel pipelines were situated directly under the job site, preventing the rig from being anchored. This required specialized adjustments to ensure safety and accuracy.
3. Public City Events Creating Increased Populations
The work took place near civic buildings during public holiday events. MAXX HDD increased security and safety around the job site to minimize disruptions.
Despite the space constraints, MAXX HDD completed the project on time, allowing the construction company to remain on schedule. Additionally, there were no inadvertent releases, and the city hosted its holiday events without disruption.
